PR-740-09, 20 September 2009 – The Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah requested the Saudi authorities to investigate the death of a Filipino at the Jeddah Deportation Center.

Philippine Consul General Ezzedin H. Tago reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) that the Consulate sent a formal communication asking for a probe on the death of Edward Cuano last August 16 while under custody at the deportation center.

Mr. Cuano was apprehended by Saudi police authorities on August 8 for violation of immigration laws and was brought to the deportation center for investigation. He allegedly suffered chest pains and died on August 16.

The DFA has informed Mr. Cuano’s family of his demise and continues to update them on developments.

The Consulate continues to make representations with Saudi authorities on the matter. END
