DFA Signs MOA with DPWH to Provide Immediate Assistance to “Ondoy” Victims in Pasig

Posted: 30 Sep 2009 04:04 AM PDT

PR-774-09, 30 September 2009 – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) today signed a supplemental memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the release of DFA of the additional amount of PhP15M for Phase II of the Emergency Employment Program in Pasig City under the Arroyo Administration’s Comprehensive Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program (CLEEP).

The additional amount is intended to provide immediate relief and assistance to the victims of last Saturday’s typhoon Ondoy in Pasig City.

This will bring to PhP30M the total amount funded by the DFA for emergency employment in Pasig City under CLEEP.

Last 12 December 2008, the DFA and DPWH executed a similar MOA where the DFA released PhP15M for Phase I of the Emergency Employment Program which has benefitted 1,000 out-of-school youths in Pasig City.

Undersecretary Esteban B. Conejos, Jr. signed on behalf of the DFA while Undersecretary Romeo S. Momo signed for the DPWH. Congressman Roman T. Romulo, who represents Pasig City in the House of Representatives, attended the signing ceremony.

This MOA stemmed from Memorandum Circular No. 168 dated 23 October 2008 directing all departments and national agencies of the Philippine government to draw up and prepare emergency work programs and mobilize all their remaining resources to finance pro-poor programs. The DFA was designated as steward of Pasig City.

The DFA shall immediately release the additional project funding to assist Pasig residents affected by the recent calamity. END
