| OFWs propose reprimand
Manila Bulletin – Manila,Philippines
An alliance of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) Saturday proposed a reprimand for unscrupulous recruitment agencies compelling OFWs for new passports even if they are still not expired.
Migrante said the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) should look into the increasing number of complaints on devious agencies to stop harassment of OFWs in the Middle East and in the Philippines.
“We are calling on POEA Administrator Jennifer Manalili to reprimand or even suspend agencies requiring OFWs and would-be OFWs to renew their un-expired passport, which is in gross violation of the green-passport-validity policy of the DFA,’’ said John Leonard Monterona, regional coordinator of Migrante Middle East.
