LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines—Three people died and another was injured when a tanker truck hit a motorcycle early Friday along the Maharlika Highway in Casiguran town, Sorsogon, a police official said.
Senior Supt. Eriberto Olitoquit, Sorsogon provincial director, identified two of the fatalities as Pfc. Randy Milagrosa, the motorcycle driver, and Salvador Fernandez, the truck driver.
Milagrosa was with the 49th Infantry Battalion based in Bulan town in southernmost tip of Sorsogon.
Police have yet to identify the woman with Milagrosa who also died in the accident that occurred around 1 a.m in Barangay Boton.
The three were rushed to the Sorsogon Provincial Hospital but were declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.
Injured was Sammy Bolanos, helper of the ill-fated truck.
Investigators said the truck’s brakes could have malfunctioned, causing the driver to lose control and hit the motorcycle and two houses owned by Emirico Rioso and Marcial Hamor, which were along the national road.
